Our Shivalik College : A Brief Morphology

Location of the College
The earstwhile princely state of J&K is renowned world over for its scenic beauty and breathtaking landscapes.The shivalik hills extending from J&K to the western U.P has been a major source of attraction since times immemorial.Thus Shivalik College draws its name and inspiration from Shivalik Hills-well known for its majestic excellence, towering heights and for being so formidable. The Shivalik College of Education is located in the city of Udhampur, 65 kms from Jammu, situated in the lap of nature at an altitude of about 700mts from the sea level. The climate and environment remain pleasant throughout the year and the place is relatively pollution free.These factors provide one with a conducive learning environment.
Moreover, Udhampur is the headquarters of the Northern Command of the Indian Army, which makes it safe and secure district headquarter. The Shivalik College of Education has been so planned to grow that it gets recognized as the educational spring of quality teachers who will thereby enhance the standards of school education within and outside the state & national boundaries. Setup in the year 1998,the college has achieved astonishing results and envious growth because of efficient management and dedicated staff who strive to achieve the impossible. The college is run by the trustees of ‘The Happy Model Foundation -the name which has inspired trust and confidence in every student for the last 26 years.

The College Complex
An exclusively new complex of the college has been constructed in an independent land area of about 9 Kanals with all essential facilities as per statuary norms and procedures for a college of education. the college has an approach-metalled road, with proper transport facilities.

1) Building :- The building is an independent structure and three floors have been constructed having varied instructional and other essential facilities. Each floor, with spacious rooms, is fully equipped with proper electric connections, modernized sanitation facilities, appropriate ventilation arrangements, safe and broad stairs, wide passages and facilities of A/V aids projection.

2) Classrooms :- There are 8 classrooms with adequate sitting capacity and of the bigger dimensions than that required under statuary norms laid down for infrastructure facilities. Each classroom is fully equipped with proper electric connections, display boards, blackboards and arrangements for A/V aids projection.

3) Multipurpose Halls :- There are two multipurpose halls, of which one is located at the first floor where as other is located at the second floor. Both these halls have all essential facilities such as, electric points, A/V aids projection facility, attached bathrooms and adequate seating arrangements. These halls will be used for the conduct of various academic and training programmes such as, conduct of examinations, training workshops, seminars, induction courses, conferences as well as for some co-curricular activities.

4) Library :- The library is located at the first floor fully equipped with all essential facilities such as, adequate seating arrangement of about 80 students, magazine rack, newspaper stand, sufficient educational technology equipments, catalog box etc. At present the library has about 5285 documents including Books & emedia. These books and other facilities are continously upgraded to satisfied the needs of the learners.

5) Basic Amenities for the Students in the College :- The new complex provides all essential basic amenities for the male and female students separately.

a) The Girls' common room is located at first floor having adequate furniture and other facilities having an attached
set of 3 toilets and 3 bathrooms.
b) The Boys' common room is located at the second floor and provides essential facilities as per requirement.
c) The Canteen facilities within the premises of the college have been provided having availability of the most hygienic and nourished food items. The canteen with dining hall and kitchen area is located at the west side of the college building.
d) The play fields for badminton, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, basketball and lawn tennis etc. are being developed
within the premises of the college.
e) Three water coolers with provision of Acquaguard water filters are located at different locations to provide
safe drinking water facilities.
f) A power generator of 9 kva has been provided to meet emergency power breakdowns.

6) Audio/Visual Aids Room, Computer Lab and General Science Lab :-
a) An A/V aids room is located on the second floor having three multimedia, four overhead & two slide projectors. There are eight cassette recorders, two V.C.Rs, two TV's, language machine and sufficient number of educational DVD's, CD's, audio cassettes, video cassettes, transparencies etc.
b) A computer lab on the first floor has been provided with 16 advanced Pentium Dual Core Computers to provide basic computer literacy under ICT programme of NCTE & University of Jammu.
c) The Science, Social Science & Math learning Lab equipments are available separately & in the labs of our Happy Modle experimental school.

7) Pscyhological Lab :- A lab of Psychology has been setup. The lab has several tools, tests scales, inventories etc. Trainees are given traning in knowledge & administration of these in groups. A trainee is required to actually administor it on students of the experimental / traning school.
8) Principal Room, Staff-Room and Office :-
a) The newly constructed complex has a Principal office at ground floor with adequate furniture for any administrative purpose.
b) The staff-room is located on the Second floor with all essential facilities.
c) The office with an attached recourse room is located at ground floor with adequate No. of almirahs and racks to accommodate all essential records.
